25. Try The Fenis Of Goa!

FENI

Feni is to Goa, what Tequila is to Mexico, Vodka is to Russia and Scotch is to Scotland. It is a locally made drink that is extremely popular among the locals as well as visitors to Goa. The drink is made out of both Cashewnuts and Coconuts and is made by distilling their juices. Feni making process is indigenous and very much rooted in the local traditions.

The cashew apples are crushed manually and the resulting extract is put in earthen pots to be buried deep in soil so that it can ferment and age in the most natural way possible. The juice is then extracted as alcohol and collected in copper pots. While the first distillation is milder, it is still consumed as ‘Urrack’ the second distillation is not termed drinkablllede; it is the third distillation which is called ‘Feni. Ideally consumed with the local brew of lemons and chillies, it can also be consumed with Lime spirits or lime soda. A must on your list of things to Do In Goa, a glass of Feni is best relished with local shrimp and seafood delicacies.
